What is PALMYCO?
PALMYCO is NUMU's proprietary bio-composite material system — mycelium grown on regional agricultural fibre, forming a rigid, breathable, home-compostable material. FOLD, our first product, is built on this material.
Is FOLD fire rated?
Fire performance testing is in progress with an independent engineer in Dubai. Based on existing mycelium acoustic panel literature and preliminary results, we're targeting Class B (ASTM E84). Formal certification is pending.
What's the acoustic performance?
FOLD targets an NRC in the 0.72-0.80 range, consistent with published data on mycelium acoustic panels. Formal certification is in progress.
What's the lead time?
6-8 weeks from order, manufactured in Dubai.
How does PALMYCO perform in humidity?
Mycelium develops a natural hydrophobic surface layer as it grows, which holds up under normal humidity exposure. It only becomes an issue under prolonged exposure above roughly 90% humidity, or direct submersion in water. The material is also breathable — moisture-vapour permeable — so it doesn't trap humidity the way sealed synthetic materials can.
