VisualisationThe piece
Every surface is grown, so no two pieces repeat.
Grown veneer is a technique developed in house at NUMU. Faced onto furniture, it gives a sideboard door or a table top the warmth of wood and the veining of marble, with a pattern that belongs to that piece alone.
Three compositions show the range. In a tile composition, 20 × 20 cm modules are set into a walnut frame; each tile carries its own pattern, and together they read as one surface. In a plate composition, continuous plates framed in oak or walnut carry the veining across a whole door, like book-matched stone. In tile to timber, mycelium tiles dissolve into walnut across a single front.
The collection is a demonstrator of the technique. Proportions, joinery, timber and finish are developed with each client, from a single cabinet to a run of pieces for a hotel or residence.

What is known, and how we know it.
